Discover what comes in the Fellow x Yama Matcha Set and how to use each tool. A complete starter bundle for authentic matcha preparation.
Quick Answer
The Fellow x Yama Matcha Set bundles a complete set of matcha tools—bowl, whisk, whisk stand, spoon, sifter, and tea tray—with Yama Matcha, making it a convenient, thoughtfully designed starter package for anyone new to matcha.
What Makes This Set Different
Unlike buying each tool separately, the Fellow x Yama Matcha Set gives you everything in one box, from the ceramic bowl to the bamboo whisk and even the matcha itself. Each ceramic piece is handmade, so subtle variations in shape and glaze make your set unique. This attention to craftsmanship means no two sets are exactly alike, which adds a personal touch to your matcha ritual.
The set also includes a tea tray, a detail often omitted from other starter kits. That tray catches drips and keeps your workspace tidy, especially useful when you're still learning the whisking technique.
What You Need to Know Before Buying
This set is designed for matcha beginners, but it also works well for experienced drinkers who want a coordinated, high-quality set without hunting down each piece. The included Yama Matcha is a culinary-grade matcha, suitable for daily lattes and baking, not ceremonial use. If you prefer a finer, ceremonial-grade matcha for traditional tea ceremonies, you may want to purchase that separately.
The bamboo whisk (chasen) is delicate and requires proper care—rinse with water after each use and air-dry it on the whisk stand. The stand is included, so you have no excuse to skip this step.
How to Use the Fellow x Yama Matcha Set: Decision Rules
- 1. Prepare Your Tools: Place the tea tray on your counter. Set the ceramic bowl on the tray. Put the bamboo whisk in the whisk stand so it's ready to use.
- 2. Sift the Matcha: Use the included sifter to sift 1–2 teaspoons of Yama Matcha into the bowl. Sifting removes clumps and ensures a smooth, lump-free drink. Always sift matcha before whisking, even if you're in a hurry.
- 3. Add Water: Pour about 2 ounces of hot water (175°F / 80°C) into the bowl. Use the spoon to stir gently, breaking up any remaining clumps.
- 4. Whisk: Hold the bamboo whisk with both hands. Move it in a quick "W" or "M" motion, not a circular stir. Whisk for 15–20 seconds until a thin layer of foam appears on the surface. A proper whisking motion creates a creamy, frothy matcha without bitterness.
- 5. Enjoy and Clean: Drink directly from the bowl. Rinse the whisk with plain water immediately after use and place it back on the whisk stand to air-dry. Hand-wash the bowl and spoon with mild soap. Never soak the bamboo whisk—it can crack or develop mold.
