Category: Coffee

A rich, full-bodied Caturra from Villa Maria farm in San Agustín, Colombia, processed with meticulous attention at every step and roasted medium-light by ilse coffee.

The Ortega-Gomez family has been growing coffee in San Agustín for over sixty years. The family also helped to found Monkaaba, a producer-led collective built to give smallholder farmers in the region the market access, knowledge, and support.

This lot is a separation of Caturra harvested in August 2025. Cherries are picked at peak ripeness every three weeks, floated, then fermented in open tanks before being depulped, dry-fermented, rinsed, and dried on raised beds for 20 to 25 days. The result is rich and comforting,  a crowd pleaser that performs equally well as filter or espresso.

Plum. Raisin. Dark chocolate.

Poured my first cup this morning and the body is incredible—rich without being heavy, just like a good Caturra should be. You can really taste the care the Ortega-Gomez family put into every step from farm to roast. This is my new go-to for a clean, satisfying coffee.

The roast is so well balanced for a medium-light, bringing out the caturra’s natural sweetness without any bitterness. I’ve been brewing it in my pour-over and getting a really clean, full-bodied cup every time.

Brewed a cup this morning and the sweetness really comes through—almost like caramel, but not overpowering. Clean finish without any bitterness, even as it cooled down.

This one has that perfect balance—bright enough for a morning pour-over but with enough body to hold up to milk. I noticed the medium-light roast really lets the Caturra's natural sweetness shine through without any bitterness.

I was honestly surprised by how vibrant the acidity is for a Caturra—it really cuts through the richness and makes each sip feel lively. Perfect for my morning pour-over, the medium-light roast brings out a clean finish without any bitterness.

The first sip hit me with this amazing stone fruit sweetness that smoothed out into a rich, almost chocolatey finish. Brewing it as a pour-over brought out so much depth without any bitterness at all. I’ve already ordered another bag for next week.

The clean, bright acidity and silky body made this a standout morning brew. It's sweet enough that I don't need sugar, and the medium-light roast lets the fruity notes of the Caturra bean shine.
