MUMS is a collaboration with Hugo Tea, a Kansas City-based specialty tea company known for close producer relationships and full traceability from farm to cup.

The black tea comes from Gedeng Mountain, one of the six ancient tea mountains east of the Lancang river in Yunnan. Fully oxidized to a warm, honeyed character, it's smooth and structured with the depth that only old-mountain Yunnan leaf delivers. The chrysanthemum is White Taiju baby buds from Huangshan, harvested in early spring at peak aromatic clarity. First-pick. Selected for fragrance above all else.

Together they're pressed into a cake by Xiaohui Quan, known as Brother Quan, a 35-year veteran of old-world Yunnan tea making who has spent his career making once-luxury teas accessible. The result is delicate without being thin: the black tea holds structure while the chrysanthemum floats above it, clean and sweet and floral.

Both harvests are spring 2026.

🌎 Origin: Gedeng, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China

I’ve been brewing this daily since it arrived, and the leaves from Gedeng Mountain give a smooth, rich cup that doesn’t turn bitter even after a long steep. The fact that it comes from a Kansas City tea company with full traceability makes it feel more personal, too.

I've been through a lot of black teas, but the fact that this one is fully traceable back to Gedeng Mountain makes every cup feel intentional. It's smooth without any bitterness, even when I accidentally let it steep a little long.

This tea has real depth β€” the first sip hit with a rich, almost earthy note that mellowed into something surprisingly sweet. Knowing it’s traceable straight back to Gedeng Mountain makes each cup feel intentional. Already brewing my second pot.

I wasn't expecting such a smooth, clean finish from a black tea β€” this one's flavor is really well-balanced and not bitter at all. The fact that it's traceable to Gedeng Mountain makes each cup feel a little more special.

For a black tea that’s fully traceable back to a single mountain, the flavor is remarkably clean and smoothβ€”I can actually taste the terroir. Brewed a pot this morning and the leaves held up for three steeps without getting bitter.

I opened the bag and the leaves are whole, not broken bits β€” that alone tells me this isn't mass-market stuff. The flavor is smooth with a gentle sweetness that lingers, exactly what I hoped for from a single-origin black tea.

The traceability on this tea is incredibleβ€”knowing it's from Gedeng Mountain makes each sip feel more connected to the source. It brews up smooth with a subtle sweetness, no bitterness at all.

I just brewed a cup this morning and the flavor is incredibly smooth with no bitterness at all. It's nice knowing the tea comes from a specific mountain farm, makes each sip feel more connected to the source.

The traceability to a specific mountain in the sourcing really sets this apart β€” I can taste the care in every cup. It brews a rich, smooth cup with no bitterness, perfect for my morning routine.

I’ve been brewing this black tea every morning since it arrived, and the full traceability from farm to cup really shows in the clean, smooth flavor. The leaves unfurl nicely with a rich aroma that beats any bagged tea I’ve tried.
