This week’s Drop is Andrés Martinez, a special, limited release Blackberry co-ferment from one of Colombia's most innovative producers.

Andrés Martinez is a producer whose creativity shines in the processing method—a four-day anaerobic fermentation with castilla blackberries and enology yeast, followed by an open fermentation in blackberry juice.

Roasted by Mom 'n 'em in  Cincinnati, the result is bright, eccentric, and expressive, with taste notes of macerated berry, black tea, and demerara.

🌎 Origin: Cauca, Colombia

⚗️ Process: Honey / Blackberry Co-Ferment

🔬 Variety: Caturra

🔥 Roast: Light

About the Roaster:
Brothers Tony and Austin Ferrari opened Mom 'n 'em Coffee in Cincinnati on Mother's Day 2019 as a tribute to their hardworking mom. Since early 2023, they've been meticulously sourcing and roasting bright, expressive coffees from producers like Andrés Martinez.

Elizabeth ★★★★★

I usually go for washed coffees, but this co-ferment is a game changer with that bright, jammy note cutting through the rich body. It’s incredibly smooth, and the flavor lingers nicely even after the cup cools. Definitely one of the more unique bags I’ve brewed lately.

Ella ★★★★★

The blackberry co-fermentation gives this coffee a tartness that cuts through the milk perfectly. I brewed it as a pour-over and got a lingering wine-like finish that’s totally new to me. A 5-star find for anyone bored with standard single origins.

Richard H. ★★★★★

I’ve never tasted a coffee that actually smells like fresh blackberries before opening the bag—this one delivers. The fermentation process gives it a subtle, wine-like acidity that’s surprisingly smooth. Definitely a short-lived treat since it’s limited.

Adam ★★★★★

The blackberry flavor is incredibly vibrant but not artificial at all, it smells like fresh jam in the bag. Brewed it as a pour-over and got a really clean, sweet cup with none of the funk you sometimes get with co-ferments. Definitely grabbing another bag if they restock.

Benjamin W. ★★★★★

Finally got to try this blackberry co-ferment, and the fruit-forward acidity is unlike anything I've brewed before—bright and clean without being sour. The fermentation process really lets the blackberry notes come through naturally in the cup. Definitely grabbing more if it comes back.

Claire ★★★☆☆

I was curious about the blackberry co-ferment process, and the fruit flavor does come through, though it’s a bit more subtle than I expected. The beans felt a bit unevenly roasted, as a few were darker than the rest. It’s a decent cup for the price, but I’ve had more consistent single-origin coffees before.
