MUMS is a collaboration with Hugo Tea, a Kansas City-based specialty tea company known for close producer relationships and full traceability from farm to cup.

The black tea comes from Gedeng Mountain, one of the six ancient tea mountains east of the Lancang river in Yunnan. Fully oxidized to a warm, honeyed character, it's smooth and structured with the depth that only old-mountain Yunnan leaf delivers. The chrysanthemum is White Taiju baby buds from Huangshan, harvested in early spring at peak aromatic clarity. First-pick. Selected for fragrance above all else.

Together they're pressed into a cake by Xiaohui Quan, known as Brother Quan, a 35-year veteran of old-world Yunnan tea making who has spent his career making once-luxury teas accessible. The result is delicate without being thin: the black tea holds structure while the chrysanthemum floats above it, clean and sweet and floral.

Both harvests are spring 2026.

🌎 Origin: Gedeng, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China

Stella F. ★★★★★

I brew this black tea every morning now—the leaves are surprisingly large and unbroken, which makes the second steep just as rich as the first. The flavor has a smooth, almost creamy note that I didn't expect from a single-origin tea.

I was curious about the Gedeng Mountain origin mentioned in the description, and the flavor really shines through—earthy but smooth with a nice depth that lasts several steeps. Made a perfect afternoon cup without any bitterness.

Brewed up a cup and the liquor was surprisingly smooth with no bitterness at all, even after steeping a bit longer than suggested. The flavor has this nice, subtle sweetness that makes it perfect for a morning without milk. Really impressed with how clean and distinct the taste is compared to other black teas I've tried.

Natalie ★★★★★

The dry leaves smell incredibly rich—like dark honey and dried fruit—and the first sip is super smooth with no bitterness at all. This is hands-down the best morning tea I’ve had in ages, and I’m already looking forward to my second cup.

Emma ★★★★★

I’ve been brewing this black tea every morning since it arrived—the leaves from Gedeng Mountain unfurl beautifully and produce a deep, malty flavor that’s never bitter. It’s become my favorite way to start the day, and the fact that I can trace it straight back to the farm makes it feel special.

Jason ★★★★☆

Really nice depth of flavor from the Gedeng Mountain leaves—smooth and earthy, not bitter at all. Only wish the bag had a resealable top to keep it fresher longer.
