Gekkou, meaning moonlight, is a shade grown matcha with soft, blue-green tencha leaves. It was produced by the Nishide family, where three generations work side by side, and slowly stone-milled in-house. The result is a smooth, silky matcha with notes of chawanmushi (savory egg custard), almond cookie, and hazelnut praline.

I was skeptical about paying this much for matcha, but the smooth, almost creamy texture when whisked is unlike anything I’ve had before. It’s perfect for morning lattes—no bitterness, just a mellow sweetness. Already noticing my afternoon slump fading.

I was genuinely surprised by how smooth this matcha is—no bitterness at all, even when I whisked it with just water. The stone-ground texture gives it a velvety feel that dissolves completely, and the subtle sweetness makes my morning latte perfect.

The first sip hit me with such a creamy, savory flavor that I actually paused mid-morning to appreciate it. The color is this gorgeous, soft blue-green that looks almost luminous in the bowl — exactly as described.

The stone-milling process must make a difference, because the texture is incredibly fine and it dissolves into a silky smooth cup with almost no clumps. I’ve been drinking it as a morning latte, and the subtle grassy sweetness is perfect alone without any sugar. Really impressed with the quality for the price.

The blue-green color of the powder is really something else, and the taste is incredibly smooth with no bitterness at all. I’ve been whisking a teaspoon each morning and it gives me such a calm, steady energy. It’s a little pricier than my usual matcha, but the quality genuinely justifies it.

The deep blue-green color of the powder is beautiful, and it dissolves almost clump-free with just a whisk. I’ve been using it for morning lattes and the flavor is rich but not bitter. Only wish the bag had a resealable zipper for freshness.
